The Last Yard

Thunder enters my veins and lighting strikes my heart, I never wanted this explosion that tears me apart, the world is chaos and my head is spinning, I wish that the finish line wasn't winning, I'm sprinting towards my dream, up hill and against myself, putting all my insecurities on the shelf, so what if I fail, so what if I fall, so what if I give it my all, blood, sweat, and tears did I spill, the voices call for my defeat, and the grip threatens my feet, to slip down this mountain, but still I grip to my vision, though clouded and tainted, I reach from the ashes towards the sainted, destination, rain come wash away, the bitterness I swallowed today, I run through the chains that pull at my limbs, I run through the pile that scratches at my torn body, I will push through, I will keep going, I will get that last yard
